ISLAMABAD” Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Asad Umar has penned a letter to Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Umar Ata Bandial and urged him to take notice of the government’s actions against Imran Khan.

The PTI leader asked the chief justice to take notice of the illegal attempts to stop Imran Khan from reaching the Judicial Complex for a court appearance and attempting to arrest him despite court orders.

In the letter, Asad Umar mentioned that the Islamabad High Court (IHC) has set aside Imran Khan’s arrest warrants and directed him to appear in court.

Asa Umar said the Islamabad High Court barred law enforcers from arresting Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case and the Lahore High Court prohibited his arrest in nine cases.

He stated that as Imran Khan was en route to Islamabad to appear before a trial court, the Punjab Police stormed his Zaman Park residence in Lahore while the “doors and walls have been raised to the ground”.

He said the Islamabad Police “in order to create terror and harassment” has blocked the roads leading to the Judicial Complex and has also blocked the motorway and other highways to create hurdles in Imran Khan’s appearance before the court.

He said the “unlawful and illegal actions” are intended to arrest Imran Khan in certain cases which are not even in his knowledge. He said Imran’s legal team and media have been refused access and the fundamental rights are being compromised by police and law enforcement agencies.

Asad Umar told the CJP that he has “firm reasons” to believe that the state in order to take revenge on the PTI chief is “hell-bent to compromise the liberty of Imran Khan in the most unlawful manner”.

“And it has been reiterated by Imran Khan time and again his life is at stake and he may be taken out in a bid to take his life,” the PTI leder wrote.

He urged the top judge to take suo moto action and stop the authorities from action illegally and arresting Imran Khan.

The PTI chief has also filed a similar plea in the IHC asking the high court to restrict all authorities — including the National Accountability Bureau — to not arrest him in any case.

Imran Khan headed towards the Islamabad Judicial Complex to appear before Additional Sessions Judge Zafar Iqbal in the Toshakhana case.

He was prevented after police clashed with party workers over the possible arrest of the PTI chief.
