Power consumers in Pakistan might soon experience an increase in their electricity bills, as the cost per unit is expected to rise by Rs0.55.

This development stems from a request for an increase in the monthly fuel price adjustment, which was filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) on behalf of government-owned Distribution Companies (Discos).

The request is set to be heard by the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) tomorrow.

If approved, it could place an additional financial burden of 8 billion and 370 million on consumers for a single month.

According to the CPPA’s application, in the month of September, a staggering 12 billion and 920 million units of electricity were sold.

Added that the hydropower contributed 37.55% of the total electricity production, indicating a reliance on this renewable energy source.

These statistics highlight the dynamic landscape of electricity generation and the financial implications it may have for consumers in Pakistan as they await Nepra’s decision regarding the requested increase in the fuel price adjustment.
