ISLAMABAD: The founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) is set to run for elections in three constituencies, as announced by PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Ali and Barrister Ali Zafar during a press conference. Gohar Ali Khan, the party chairman, revealed that the PTI founder will be contesting in the National Assembly constituencies of Mianwali, Lahore, and Islamabad.
Barrister Ali Zafar emphasized the PTI’s commitment to holding general elections on February 08, asserting that refraining from submitting nomination papers goes against the democratic process’s spirit. He stated that boycotting the election is not an option, and the party expects attempts from opponents to create a challenging situation.
Barrister Gohar expressed concerns about opponents denying the election field to PTI candidates, highlighting the party’s desire for the Election Commission to ensure its rights as a political entity. Despite acknowledging opponents’ attempts to exacerbate the situation, he emphasized the PTI’s reluctance to worsen it.
Gohar stated that decisions regarding party tickets would be made soon, advising candidates to face hardships and submit their nomination papers. Ali Zafar expressed optimism that the Election Commission would promptly decide on the PTI’s election symbol, emphasizing the potential damage to democracy in the absence of transparency in elections.
Regarding the Toshakhana case, Ali Zafar expressed hope that the Islamabad High Court would announce its decision soon. He mentioned the PTI’s directive for workers to file their nomination papers and indicated a preference for PTI leaders in jails over other candidates.
