Ayla Majid Becomes First Pakistani President in ACCA’s 120-Year History
ISLAMABAD: Ayla Majid has made history as the first Pakistani and South Asian to be elected president of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a leading global accountancy body.
Majid, who leads a firm specializing in decarbonization, sustainability, and energy transition, will represent over 252,500 members and 526,000 future ACCA professionals across 180 countries during her one-year term, the ACCA announced.
Currently the founder and CEO of Planetive Middle East and Planetive Pakistan, Majid brings over two decades of expertise in energy, transaction advisory, mergers and acquisitions, investments, and corporate governance.
In addition to her ACCA qualification, she holds an MBA from Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of London.
Expressing gratitude for the trust of ACCA members, Majid stated her vision for the profession under the theme: “I would like to thank ACCA members for putting their trust in me. The themes I wish to highlight in the months to come can be summarised under the broad heading: ‘A new future for accountancy with a strategic lens and a stakeholder approach.”
The newly elected ACCA president emphasized that the accountancy profession is constantly evolving and forward-thinking. She stated, “We’re working to promote it as an exciting, purposeful, and attractive career choice, embracing sustainability and social value.”
She also mentioned, “I look forward to speaking about how the role of the accountants is widening and working to update perceptions of the profession in the age where technology is a dominant player.”
