The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has announced that all commercial banks across the country will remain closed on the first day of Ramadan 2025.

In an official statement, the central bank declared a “Bank Holiday” on the first working day of Ramadan 1446 AH to facilitate the annual deduction of Zakat. During this time, all banks, Development Finance Institutions (DFIs), and Microfinance Banks (MFBs) will be closed for public dealings.

A formal notification regarding the holiday is expected to be issued in the coming days. However, it has been clarified that employees of banks, DFIs, and MFBs will still report to work and perform their duties as usual, except for transactions with the public.

This measure aligns with the annual practice of Zakat deduction at the beginning of Ramadan.

According to astronomical calculations, Ramadan in Pakistan is likely to commence on March 2, 2025, as the new moon is expected to appear on February 28, though its low altitude and distance may affect visibility.

Similarly, Eid ul-Fitr is predicted to fall on March 31, with the crescent moon expected to be sighted on March 30. The final confirmation will be made by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee.
