Another holiday for residents of Karachi on June 19 Thursday in light of the annual urs of Sufi saint Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi, Mayor Murtaza Wahab said Monday.

Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has declared a public holiday in the city on Thursday to mark the Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi. As per an official notification issued by the Senior Director of Human Resources Management (HRM), all offices under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will be closed on that day.

A notification issued by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) announced a local holiday on 22nd Zill-Hajj, 1446 A.H., which falls on Thursday, June 19, 2025, to mark the annual Urs of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi (R.A.). The holiday is being observed under Council Resolution No. 594, dated January 27, 2005, approved by the City Council of Karachi.

According to the notice, all KMC offices will remain closed on this day, except for those involved in essential services.

The urs of the revered saint is celebrated traditional fervour every year, with festivities such as qawwali and milad. People from different areas of the port city, interior Sindh as well as other regions of the country travel long distances to take part in the Urs processions out of immense affection and respect for the saint.

Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi was a Sufi saint, who was born in 109 Hijri. He came to Karachi during the Ummayad Dynasty’s rule in 1938 Hijri Since then, he has been recognized by his devotees.
