NDMA orders spillway release as Rawal Dam water level reaches its full capacity

As the water level at Rawal Dam reaches its maximum capacity of 1750 feet, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has announced that the dam’s spillways will be opened today at 6 AM. The decision comes as part of emergency precautions to manage the dangerously high water levels.

According to the NDMA spokesperson, the rising level is expected to result in a significant increase in water flow in Korang Nullah. Authorities have already issued alerts to all relevant district administrations and rescue agencies, preparing them for any possible emergency.

Residents living near flood-prone areas, particularly around Korang Nullah, have been strongly advised to remain alert. The public is urged to avoid unnecessary movement, especially near low-lying areas, temporary bridges, and water crossings.

In a public safety advisory, the NDMA has requested citizens not to cross or stand near the nullah or any vulnerable water channels. In case of flooding or any emergency, residents should move to safer areas immediately and contact Rescue 1122 or local authorities.

NDMA emphasized that it is closely monitoring the situation and all preventive measures are being taken to ensure public safety.
