KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah on Monday chaired a meeting to review preparations for possible rain emergencies in the city.

Officials briefed the CM about the expected rainfall in Karachi starting tonight. Mayor Murtaza Wahab informed him that work is already underway to clear 44 choking points of major nullahs and to clean around 150 drains across the city.

The mayor added that 120 suction vehicles have been arranged to remove rainwater from low-lying areas. He also said the city administration is in contact with the PDMA to get additional machinery if required.

The chief minister directed the traffic police to ensure smooth traffic flow during the rains and instructed municipal bodies and local administration to stay on high alert.

Highlighting the positive side, Murad Ali Shah shared that Thar has received good rainfall this season, which has filled all dams in the region. “This water is extremely valuable for the people of Tharparkar,” he said.
