CM Maryam Nawaz launches electric bus service in Sahiwal
SAHIWAL: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated the new electric bus service in Sahiwal on Monday. After the launch, she boarded one of the buses herself and took a ride around the city.
Just last week, Maryam Nawaz had also introduced eco-friendly electric buses in Sargodha. Speaking at the ceremony, she announced that 60 buses would soon be running within Sargodha city and 105 across the division. A charging station has also been set up in Sargodha to support this service.
The chief minister also shared relief measures for flood-affected families. She announced that livestock owners who lost their animals during the floods will receive compensation ranging from Rs200,000 to Rs500,000, with cheque distribution starting within five days.
Highlighting the devastation, she said the floods had hit 27 cities and more than 5,000 villages. She stressed that timely action by the Punjab government helped prevent a much larger loss of lives.
According to her, around 2.5 million people were safely evacuated and provided with food and other essentials. She added that not only were people rescued, but their livestock was also moved to safer places to protect their livelihoods.
