Karachi Traffic police give warning to citizen, beware of fake fine messages
KARACHI: The Karachi Traffic Police have warned citizens about fake messages asking for online payment of traffic fines.
Officials clarified that these messages are completely false and have no link with the traffic police or any government department. They stressed that no SMS is ever sent to citizens for paying challans, and such messages should be ignored.
Meanwhile, the traffic police have started the second phase of their awareness campaign ahead of the launch of the new e-challan system. Under this system, traffic violations will be recorded through digital evidence like photos and videos, and fines will be sent directly to violators’ homes by post. Citizens will also be able to check their challans through the official traffic police mobile app.
To spread awareness, Karachi’s DIG Traffic recently met with advertising companies. Together, they plan to put up traffic awareness messages at more than 100 locations across the city. These will include streamers, signboards, and other displays reminding people to follow road safety rules. Educational videos and images will also be shared to help drivers understand traffic laws better.
The police urged citizens to strictly follow traffic rules to avoid fines and unnecessary trouble once the e-challan system goes live.
