PM Shehbaz Sharif announces Pakistan will host 2027 SCO Summit
Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced that Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in 2027.
Talking about development and environmental efforts, the prime minister said Pakistan will have the honor of hosting the event and stressed the need to start preparations early to ensure its success.
He shared that work is already underway to make Constitution Avenue more beautiful, while electric vehicle (EV) transport has been introduced to protect the environment. He added that the federal government is taking all possible steps to give the public better travel facilities and plans to make Islamabad more modern and attractive.
Highlighting infrastructure projects, the premier said the upcoming T-Chowk Flyover will be a major relief for people living in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and nearby areas. “This one-kilometer flyover will make it easier to reach the Expressway and nearby localities,” he noted.
Earlier on September 1, Shehbaz Sharif spoke at the 25th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the SCO, where he strongly condemned terrorism in all its forms, including what he called “state terrorism.” He said Pakistan has made unmatched sacrifices in the fight against extremism, losing over 90,000 lives and suffering economic losses of more than $152 billion.
He added that foreign elements were involved in recent terror incidents in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including the Jaffar Express train hostage incident, and stressed that the world no longer accepts using terrorism as a political tool.
