PDMA issues flood alert as rainwater raises river levels in Punjab
Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a flood alert, warning of rising water levels in Punjab’s rivers due to recent rains.
According to PDMA, the Indus and Jhelum rivers are expected to see increased flow, while the Chenab may also experience a rise between October 5 and 7. The flow of water in the Sutlej and Ravi will depend on releases from India’s water reservoirs.
DG PDMA, Irfan Ali Kathia, directed all commissioners and deputy commissioners to stay alert. Acting on the Punjab Chief Minister’s instructions, district administrations across the province have been put on high alert.
Relevant departments, including Health, Irrigation, Communication and Works, Local Government, and Livestock, have also been warned to prepare for emergencies.
The PDMA advised citizens to remain cautious during bad weather and to contact the emergency helpline 1129 if needed.
