Sindh urges Federal Government to announce wheat support price without delay
KARACHI: The Sindh government has urged the federal government to announce the wheat support price, recommending Rs4,200 per maund.
Sindh’s Agriculture Minister, Sardar Muhammad Bux Mahar, said that under IMF conditions, provinces cannot set the support price without approval from the federal government. He warned that farmers are under financial pressure due to the delay and may stop growing wheat if they do not get a fair price for their crop.
Mahar shared that the Sindh government has already announced a relief package worth Rs56 billion for farmers. The province is also offering a subsidy of Rs24,700 per acre on urea and DAP fertilizers, which will benefit around 411,000 farmers who own between one and 25 acres of land.
He added that so far, 132,601 farmers have registered for the package, and registration is still ongoing. Additionally, the government has allocated another Rs8 billion for the Hari Card Scheme. New Hari Cards have been issued to 52,993 farmers, and payments are being distributed through Sindh Bank.
