ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has announced a revised electoral timetable, confirming key deadlines and procedural steps leading up to the general elections.
According to Secretary Election Commission Raja Shakeel Khan, the deadline for submission of nomination papers has been set for June 23 at 5:00 PM. Scrutiny of nomination papers will begin on June 24 at 8:00 AM, after which a list of valid candidates will be issued the same day.
Appeals against decisions of Returning Officers (ROs) can be filed from June 25 to June 28. The Election Commission will hear these appeals on June 29 and 30, while decisions on the appeals will be announced on July 1 and 2.
Candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until 2:00 PM on July 3. The final list of candidates will be published on July 4, followed by the allocation of election symbols on July 5. The final list along with symbols will also be officially issued on the same day.
Polling for the AJK Legislative Assembly general elections will take place on July 27. Officials confirmed that candidates from the Poonch district will submit nomination papers to their respective returning officers, where scrutiny will also be conducted locally.
Raja Shakeel Khan stated that the revised schedule has been issued considering public convenience and suggestions from candidates.
Meanwhile, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has released its final list of candidates for the Azad Jammu and Kashmir General Elections 2026, approving party tickets for 37 constituencies on the recommendation of its parliamentary board.
A formal notification issued on June 18, 2026 confirmed the approval of nominations, which were signed off by party president Nawaz Sharif.
According to the statement, candidates have been selected for constituencies across Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Poonch, Muzaffarabad, Neelum, Haveli, and Jammu divisions. The party said the list was finalized in line with recommendations of the parliamentary board.
Prominent candidates include Chaudhry Muhammad Saeed from Mirpur City, Chaudhry Tariq Farooq from Bhimber City, Fatah Mehmood-ul-Hassan from Kotli, Tahir Anwar Khan from Rawalakot City, Muhammad Najeeb Khan from Poonch (Plandri), Shah Ghulam Qadir from Upper and Lower Neelum, and Syed Iftikhar Ali Gillani from Muzaffarabad City.
Other notable nominees include Dr. Mustafa Bashir Abbasi from Hattian Dupatta and Raja Muhammad Farooq Haider Khan from Chikar.
The party also named Maryam Javaid from Jammu-4, Zeeshan Ali from Jammu-5, Raja Muhammad Sadiq from Jammu-6, Syed Shaukat Ali Shah from Valley-3, and Muhammad Ahmad Raza Qadri from Valley-5.
