ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has decided to conduct comprehensive audits of professionals as part of its strategy to expand the tax base.
According to officials, the FBR has already engaged 600 private auditors to assist with audits across multiple sectors, while an additional 200 auditors will be hired in the coming days.
In total, the revenue authority plans to onboard 2,000 private auditors, who will be bound by strict confidentiality rules regarding taxpayers’ information.
Sources within the FBR further revealed that high-fee medical practitioners are a key focus of the drive. Notices have already been issued to prominent doctors in Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad as the government moves to bring them into the tax net.
Sources said that in the first phase, the income of 250 expensive doctors will be audited in the three major cities, 100 in Karachi and Lahore, 100 and 50 in Islamabad.
According to FBR sources, expensive beauty parlors in big cities will also be brought under the tax net and sellers of expensive cosmetics will also have to pay tax. Apart from this, tax evasion in the paint sector as well, private companies will be affected.
