Election Commission announces Gilgit-Baltistan poll schedule

Gilgit-Baltistan: The Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan (ECGB) has officially released the schedule for the upcoming provincial elections, setting the stage for a key political exercise in the region.

According to the notification, polling will be held on 24 January 2026. The election timeline includes several critical milestones:

Submission of Nomination Papers: 3 to 8 December 2025

Preliminary List of Candidates: 9 December 2025

Scrutiny of Nomination Papers: 16 December 2025

Last Date for Filing Objections: 20 December 2025

Decision on Objections: 27 December 2025

Final List of Candidates: 28 December 2025

Withdrawal of Nomination Papers: 29 December 2025

Allocation of Electoral Symbols: 30 December 2025

The ECGB has called on all candidates, political parties, and stakeholders to strictly follow the schedule to ensure a transparent, orderly, and fair election process.

Authorities have emphasized that adherence to deadlines will be crucial for the smooth conduct of elections across all constituencies in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Earlier, Justice (Retd) Yar Muhammad Nasser has taken oath as the caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan.

The oath was administered by Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah.

The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Chief Justice Rana Shamim, former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar, and other senior officials.

Caretaker Chief Minister Yar Muhammad Nasser announced that elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held within two months.

Former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and the provincial cabinet completed their five-year constitutional term on 24 November 2025.

Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly had dissolved on November 24, 2025 after completing its five-year term.
