Gilgit: Justice (Retd) Yar Muhammad Nasser has taken oath as the caretaker Chief Minister of Gilgit-Baltistan, officials confirmed.
The oath was administered by Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Syed Mehdi Shah.
The ceremony was attended by Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam, Chief Justice Rana Shamim, former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar, and other senior officials.
Caretaker Chief Minister Yar Muhammad Nasser announced that elections in Gilgit-Baltistan will be held within two months.
Former Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan and the provincial cabinet completed their five-year constitutional term on 24 November 2025.
Earlier, Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) Assembly had dissolved on November 24, 2025 after completing its five-year term.
The current assembly was formed following the November 15, 2020 elections, and the next elections will be conducted under the provisions of the Federal Elections Act, 2017.
In this regard, the sources say that there is a possibility that the name of caretaker chief minister will be announced today in Gilgit-Baltistan, which will be announced by Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif.
