KARACHI: In the first 38 days of 2026, Karachi has already witnessed a significant rise in traffic-related incidents, with 100 people losing their lives across various areas of the city. Among the deceased, 73 were men, 12 women, and 15 children.

In addition, 1,048 individuals were injured in different traffic accidents during the same period, including 838 men, 145 women, and 65 children.

The increasing number of traffic accidents has raised serious concerns for the city administration and traffic police, highlighting urgent questions about road safety and the effectiveness of traffic management measures in Karachi.

On the other hand, the memory of the deadly Gul Plaza fire still haunts Karachi, a stark reminder of how devastating fires can be in the city. But fire incidents still continue unabated, exposing serious gaps in safety and emergency preparedness.

Alarmingly, this January alone, Karachi reported 225 fire incidents, leaving destruction, injuries and loss of lives in their wake, The News reported on Saturday.

The trend has continued into February, with more than 20 fire incidents reported in just the first five days, showing that the city remains at constant risk.

Authorities warn that unless stricter safety measures are implemented and public awareness is raised, Karachi’s residents will continue to face daily threats from both major and minor fire incidents — a danger that cannot be ignored.
