PM Shehbaz congratulates BNP Chief on election victory

Prime Minister Shehbaz extended his felicitations to the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the polls.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a telephone conversation with Tarique Rahman, chief of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), and congratulated him on his party’s landmark victory in Bangladesh’s general elections.

According to an official statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Prime Minister Shehbaz extended his felicitations to the people of Bangladesh on the successful conduct of the polls.

He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening bilateral cooperation and enhancing ties between the two countries.

During the conversation, the two leaders discussed matters of mutual interest, as well as regional peace and development.

They emphasized the importance of continued engagement and collaboration for the welfare of their respective peoples.

The statement further noted that both leaders paid tribute to former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia for her contributions toward fostering Pakistan-Bangladesh relations.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also invited Tarique Rahman to visit Pakistan at his earliest convenience.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission of Bangladesh has officially announced the results of the parliamentary elections held a day earlier. According to the final results, the BNP secured a decisive two-thirds majority.

Out of 299 contested seats, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party won 212 seats, establishing a clear lead, while Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami emerged as the second-largest party with 77 seats.
