ISLAMABAD: President Asif Ali Zardari conferred the Nishan-e-Imtiaz (Military) on National Strategic Command Commander General Syed Amir Raza at a ceremony held at Aiwan-e-Sadr on Tuesday.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and the services chiefs attended the ceremony. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, federal ministers, senior government officials and ambassadors from several countries were also present.
Prime Minister Shehbaz had promoted Raza, who previously served as chief of the General Staff, from lieutenant general to four-star general and appointed him as commander of the National Strategic Command.
The position was created following the passage of the Pakistan Army, Air Force and Navy (Amendment) Bills in 2025, which abolished the post of chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee.

Earlier, General Syed Aamer Raza has been honoured with the Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) as President Asif Ali Zardari approved the prestigious award for the newly appointed Commander National Strategic Command.
The recognition comes shortly after General Raza’s promotion to the rank of four-star general and his appointment to lead the strategic command.
The President’s Secretariat confirmed the decision on Friday through a post on the social media platform X, stating that the president had approved the conferment of Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) upon General Syed Aamer Raza.
“ The president has approved conferring Nishan-i-Imtiaz (Military) on Gen Syed Aamer Raza, the commander of the National Strategic Command,” the statement said.
