KARACHI: Shab-e-Meraj, one of the holiest nights in Islam, is being observed across the country with deep religious devotion and reverence.

The sacred night marks the miraculous journey of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), during which he was taken by the will of Allah Almighty to the highest realms of the heavens.

On this occasion, mosques across the country have been illuminated, while special prayer gatherings, recitations and religious congregations are being held.

According to the Islamic calendar, Shab-e-Meraj falls on the 27th of Rajab and carries immense spiritual significance for Muslims.

In view of the occasion, the Sindh government has announced a holiday in educational institutions across the province.

Islamic tradition states that during Al-Isra Wal-Meraj, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) was taken from Masjid al-Haram in Makkah to Masjid al-Aqsa in Jerusalem on a heavenly mount known as Al-Buraq. The event is also mentioned in the Holy Quran and holds a central place in Islamic belief.

During this blessed journey, the obligation of offering five daily prayers (Salat) was ordained for Muslims. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) also met several other prophets and led them in prayer at Masjid al-Aqsa.

Shab-e-Meraj remains one of the most extraordinary and miraculous events bestowed by Allah Almighty upon Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), symbolising faith, devotion and the spiritual elevation of humanity.
