Six former MQM leaders rejoin party

KARACHI: Five former leaders of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) on Friday arrived at the party’s Bahadurabad office to rejoin the party .

The veteran politicians include Anees Advocate, Dr Sagheer, Waseem Aftab, Saleem Tajik and Syed Talha. The MQM-P Rabita Committee members including Arshad Hasan welcomed the former leaders. They arrived along with MQM-P Deputy Convener Waseem Akhtar.

They had joined the Pak Sarzameen Party (PSP) after dissociating with the MQM and then parted ways with the PSP as well following its defeat in the 2018 General Elections.

In a statement, Waseem Akhtar said they had been in contact with their friends since 2018. Dr Sagheer’s mother was unwell, therefore, it took him time to join the party.

“Our friends have had a long experience in the MQM,” he said adding that Dr Sagheer, Wasim Aftab, Saleem Tajik and Talha Ahmed were with him while Shakeel Umar had also joined the party from Europe.

“We welcome Shakeel Umar as well in the party. He will work according to the party instructions while staying in Europe,” he said.

On May 12, Pakistan Peoples Party had invited the MQM-P to join the Sindh cabinet and offered them two ministries, sources had informed Bol News.

In a meeting held at the MQM-P’s Bahadurabad office, it was decided that a high-level delegation of the MQM-P was expected to meet PPP Co-Chairpersons – Asif Ali Zardari and Bilawal Bhutto Zardari – in coming days.

In the meeting both sides had discussed the draft document on local bodies presented by the MQM-P, moreover, the PPP had agreed to give the power of municipal functions to councilors and had accepted a clause related to the Provincial Finance Commission.
