In a significant review of Pakistan’s public health outreach efforts, Federal Minister for Health Mustafa Kamal raised serious concerns over the limited impact of vaccine awareness campaigns, despite the allocation of millions of dollars in funding.
The issue came under discussion during a high-level meeting convened to evaluate the effectiveness, transparency, and outcomes of these initiatives.
The meeting was attended by the Federal Secretary Health, Director General Health, and Director General of the Federal Directorate of Immunization (FDI), where a detailed assessment of campaign expenditures and their ground-level results was carried out.
During the session, the Minister expressed concern regarding the limited impact of the extensive financial resources invested in vaccine awareness initiatives, many of which have been supported by UNICEF.
He observed that despite spending millions of dollars, there has been no meaningful decline in vaccine hesitancy or negative public attitudes, which remains a significant challenge.
He pointed out that the fundamental aim of these awareness drives is to lower vaccine refusal rates and encourage a more positive mindset toward immunization among the public.
However, the current situation reflects that the intended targets have not been fully achieved. He stressed the immediate need to tackle misinformation and eliminate misleading narratives surrounding vaccines in order to rebuild public confidence.
Mustafa Kamal further remarked that the funds utilized under Pakistan’s name carry a heavy responsibility, making it essential for both the government and the Ministry of Health to ensure their proper, transparent, and effective use.
He added that several meetings have already been conducted on this matter, but now the emphasis must shift from discussions to practical, result-oriented measures.
Reiterating the broader objective of public health, the Minister stated that the true purpose of healthcare initiatives is to safeguard people from preventable diseases. He affirmed that the Ministry of Health is fully committed to this mission and is actively working toward improving outcomes.
He directed the concerned authorities to design a comprehensive and actionable strategy focused on restoring public trust in vaccination, while ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable progress.
In conclusion, the Federal Minister emphasized that the efficient and responsible utilization of available resources can bring about meaningful improvements, help overcome negative perceptions, and ultimately strengthen the overall public health system in the country.
