ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders hold a press conference ahead of the verdict in the Toshakhana disqualification reference against Imran Khan and maintained that only a court can announce a verdict on the disqualification of a parliamentarian.

PTI Senator Ali Zafar said that the Toshakhana reference verdict will be announced at 2pm today so they decided to brief on the case.

He maintained National Assembly speaker received a reference against Imran Khan and forwarded it to the Election Commission without evaluating it as per law.

“Speaker didn’t call Imran Khan to present his stance and forwarded the reference to ECP.”

Senator Ali Zafar said that the challans regarding the purchase of the Toshakhana gifts were submitted before ECP adding that the statements showing where the gifts were sold are also shown to the electoral watchdog.

“Income tax returns were also submitted. In this case, we have proved with all relevant documents that no misstatement was made and the accusations are spurious.”

While highlighting the ECP’s jurisdiction, the PTI leader said that only a court can decide on the matter of disqualification of a parliamentarian.

“Only a court can make declaration of Article 62 (1) (f).”

Senator Ali Zafar while urging the ECP to proceed as per law maintained that the electoral body can take action within 120 days and the reference filed against Imran Khan is about 2018 assets so after three years its not in ECP’s jurisdiction to take action.
