The coffin of Queen Elizabeth II will leave Balmoral, the royal family’s vacation home in Scotland, on Sunday morning for Edinburgh, where it will lay in state in the Throne Room of the Palace of Holyrood house, the British monarch’s official residence in Scotland, until Monday afternoon. Road travel from Balmoral Castle to the Scottish capital, the first part of a multi-day ceremonial tour, is anticipated to take about six hours.

Up to the state funeral, which will be place on September 19 at Westminster Abbey, the country of the United Kingdom is in a state of mourning. Her last resting place will be in Windsor, adjacent to Prince Philip, who passed away at the age of 99 in 2021.

On Saturday, two of the queen’s grandchildren and their wives paid a visit to the mourners at Windsor Castle, which is located in London. The appearance of Prince Harry and his wife Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, alongside William and Catherine, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, stoked rumors of a reconciliation between the brothers, whose relationship reportedly worsened when Harry and Meghan abdicated their royal responsibilities.

William expressed gratitude to his grandma in a statement for “the kindness she showed my family and me”  as well as for her example of civic engagement. “I knew this day would come, but it will be some time before the reality of life without Grannie will truly feel real,” he said.
