Peshawar to host 33rd National Games after 9 years

Peshawar is all set to host the 33rd edition of the National Games from November 10.

The city of flowers will stage the mega-event after a gap of almost nine years.

Over 10,000 athletes and team staff have reached Peshawar with a hope for a successful run.

Several political and social personalities including Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Mehmood Khan, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt. Gen. Shaheen Mazhar Mahmood attended the inaugural ceremony of the National Games.

Pakistan Air Force, Pak Army and Navy officials pays salute to the special guests.

Karachi will host the Sailing championship, Shooting will be held in Jhelum, Islamabad will conduct swimming and rowing competitions respectively.

Athletes from across the country will participate in 32 games which are divided into different categories.

The games include Athletics, Boxing, Hockey, Karate, Football, Tug of War, volleyball, Wrestling, Archery, Baseball, Softball, Table Tennis, Wushu, Gymnastic, Rugby, Judo, Taekwondo, Weightlifting, Badminton and Handball.

About 10,000 athletes from all over the country are participating in this sports event in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year, while the players are determined to play and win.

The president of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA), Arif Hasan, is confident that this edition will be bigger and better.

“The preparations are done and we are really looking forward to making this event successful,” he said.

The 33rd National Games in Peshawar will continue from November 11 to November 16.
