Khabib vs Ferguson cancelled as Global Pandemic now targets UFC

The Global pandemic has now targeted Ultimate Fighting Club (UFC) scheduled to take place on 18th of this month, resulting in its cancellation.

The news confirmed by its president, Dana White; reported Reuters.

Dana White said,

“Mixed martial arts promotion came under pressure to cancel or postpone the event from the Disney corporation, which owns broadcast partner ESPN.

White said he had received calls from “the powers that there (at Disney), and they asked me to stand down and not do this event next Saturday”.

With sparking rumours that the event would take place at a casino in California, state senator Dianne Feinstein called for the event to postponed as it contrary to the state’s “shelter in place” directive which in place to combat the spread of the coronavirus.

Earlier it was revealed that Muslim Mixed Martial Artist Khabib Nurmagomedov vs Tony Ferguson will take place despite fears that the Ultimate Fighting Club fight would cancelled due to coronavirus.

However Fans feared that the fight would cancelled due to the coronavirus pandemic. Nurmagomedov and Ferguson scheduled to meet inside the octagon on April 18.

The pair slated to fight four times before, but each occasion cancelled. And with the coronavirus pandemic currently decimating all major sporting events, it seemed that this fight, too, would scrapped.

However, White unphased about the chances of a cancellation, insisting time and time again that he would do whatever it takes to keep the fight on.

The fight expected to take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, though now it will take place elsewhere. There had been suggestions that the fight could held in either Africa or Saudi Arabia.

Khabib Nurmagomedov

Khabib Nurmagomedov is the first Muslim to win a UFC title in 2018.

For the fifth time, Nurmagomedov scheduled to defend his title against Tony Ferguson on April 18, 2020 at UFC.
