Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday that Australia will have a complete tour of the country where they will play three Tests, three ODIs and a T20I in March-April 2022.

The PCB took to Twitter to share this big news with cricket enthusiasts as Australia will be touring Pakistan for the first time since 1998.

The Kangaroos will play three Tests in Karachi, Rawalpindi and Lahore from 3 to 7, 12 to 16 and 21 to 25 March, respectively.

Meanwhile, Gaddafi Stadium Lahore will host three-match ODI series from 28 March to 02 April.

The Tests will be played as part of the ICC World Test Championship, while the ODIs will be connected to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Super League – a 13-team event from which the seven highest-placed sides and the hosts, India, will qualify directly for the event proper in 2023.

Moreover, the only 20-over game of the tour will also be played in Lahore on April 05.

PCB Chairman Ramiz Raja is excited about the upcoming tour and pleased that the multiple-time champions are going to play three Tests in the country.

“I am delighted to welcome Australia to Pakistan,” he said. “From a personal point of view, it pleases me no end that we’ll be engaged in a three-Test match series, connoisseurs delight.

“Australia are one of the high-performing sides and them playing in our backyard for the first time after a gap of 24 years will be a special treat for the fans.”

He added that it will also be a great opportunity for the Australian cricketers to enjoy the hospitability of Pakistan.

“Likewise, it will be a great opportunity for the Australia cricketers to not only play at our iconic venues but also feel and enjoy the respect, love and hospitality that this great country offers, something which most of their previous generation of cricketers missed out by playing offshore,” he stated.

On the other hand, Cricket Australia (CA) is also excited about the prospect of touring the Asian giants after such a long time.

“Cricket Australia is excited about the prospect of touring Pakistan next year for what will be a highly anticipated series in a country so incredibly passionate about the game and their national team,” CA Chief Executive Nick Hockley said.

Hockley could not help himself from praising the Pakistan cricket team, especially their performance in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup.

He thanked Pakistan’s cricket governing body for planning foolproof arrangements for safety and Covid-19-related protocols for the coming months.

“The safety and welfare of our players and staff remains our number one priority, and we will continue to work with the PCB and relevant agencies to ensure that appropriate and sufficient arrangements are put in place for the tour,” he added.

As part of the reconnoitring process, Cricket Australia’s delegation will visit Pakistan to meet with PCB officials as well as provincial and federal authorities to discuss and finalise matters relating to team operations, logistics, security and Covid-19 protocols.
