Fatima Sana, a rising Pakistani women’s cricketer, will compete in a T20 tournament in Dubai. Diana Baig and Aliya Riaz, two of her teammates, will accompany the 20-year-old all-rounder.

The mega T20 tournament will begin on May 1 and will feature players from 35 countries, including Bhutan, Brazil, and Vanuatu.

Marizanne Kapp (South Africa), Stafanie Taylor (West Indies), and Suzie Bates (New Zealand) are among the big names expected to compete.

The competition was created by Fairbreak to provide female cricketers from all around the world a chance to show off their skills. A total of 19 matches will be contested over the course of approximately 15 days.

The participation of Indian cricketers Harmanpreet Kaur and Mithali Raj is still up in the air, as their availability is reliant on the BCCI’s NOCs.

Another reason for notable Indian players’ absence from the lavish tournament could be a clash with their domestic T20 competition.

After the 2013 World Cup, ex-Australia captain Lisa Sthalekar and Shaun Martyn launched Fairbreak to expand cricket for women.

The organization has previously scheduled matches with WBBL teams, but this is the first time they have committed to a major event.

The Fairbreak Invitational is a Hong Kong Cricket idea that was originally scheduled to take place in Hong Kong but was moved to the UAE owing to the Covid-19 incident.

“There’s never been a cricket tournament like it,” Martyn told BBC Stumped.

“As far as I know, there’s never been 36 (35, if the Indians don’t take part) countries involved in any team sporting event outside of an Olympic Games. Over the years, we’ve identified and unearthed a lot of talent in Associate nations that you don’t get to see because there’s not the opportunity for them to play,” Martyn added.

Around 40 players from full-Member countries and 50 players from associate countries are anticipated to compete in the event.

Taylor will lead Team Tornadoes, which will include notable stars like Devine, Diana Baig, Aliya Riaz, Katey Martin, and a few Hong Kong players.

The event will also include Mohtashim Rasheed, the former head coach of the Pakistan women’s team. The event will be widely broadcast and will be staged twice a year.
