Birmingham Police have captured a person in connection with alleged racial comments directed at Indian spectators during the just-concluded Test between India and England at Edgbaston.

Birmingham Police reported on Twitter that a man in his thirties has been taken into custody for questioning in relation to a racially aggravated public order crime.

“#ARREST | A 32-year-old man has been arrested for a racially aggravated public order offence after reports of racist, abusive behaviour at the test match in #Birmingham on Monday. He remains in custody for questioning,” tweeted the Birmingham Police on their official Twitter account.

Earlier, Edgbaston authorities decided to launch an investigation after a number of tweets were made public by Indian fans in attendance on the fourth day of the rescheduled Test who claimed to have been subjected to racist abuse in the stands and who also complained about the stewards’ indifference.
