Stuart Broad, Matt Potts, and Dan Lawrence all back for England
Stuart Broad, who recently became a father for the first time, has rejoined England’s Test team alongside fellow recent fathers Matt Potts and Dan Lawrence for February’s two-Test tour of New Zealand.
While playing under Ben Stokes’ captaincy, Potts took 20 wickets at 28.00 in the first five games he played in during the 2022 summer. His Test debut came in the opening match, which was also played at Lord’s against New Zealand.
Nonetheless, after Ollie Robinson’s comeback to action, he did not play in England’s final two summer fixtures against South Africa, and he was surprisingly left off of the squad for the trip to Pakistan.
However, Lawrence has returned to the team for the first time since their March 2018 Caribbean trip, where his aggressive batting performances (including scores of 91 and 41 in Barbados) served as an early indicator of the team’s future course.
While playing for Essex in 2022, he saw a decline in performance due in large part to two separate hamstring ailments.
