Rohit Sharma scores his 30th ODI century in just 83 balls
Rohit Sharma finally reached the century mark, recording his first three-digit total in more than 500 days. The New Zealand captain Tom Latham invited the hosts to bat after Rohit lost the toss, but given how things turned out, the India skipper had no cause for complaint.
With opening partner Shubman Gill, Rohit scored his 30th ODI century in just 83 balls, putting together an incredible 212-run partnership. The fifth Indian opening combo to record a century in the same game is Rohit and Gill.
Rohit’s long-awaited century was eventually achieved, after a long wait. While it wasn’t as lengthy as Virat Kohli, the India captain finally got rid of the monkey off his back after going the year 2022 without scoring a single hundred in any format.
Although Rohit’s form wasn’t a cause for concern—he was consistently getting starts and scoring 50s, 70s, and 80s—a century eluded him.
Rohit’s performance of 101 off 85 balls will allow a cricket nation obsessed with statistics and hundreds to heave a tremendous sigh of relief.
