Suryakumar Yadav of India won the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year on Wednesday.
In 31 games in 2022, Yadav scored 1164 runs at an average of 46.56 and a strike rate of 187.43.
Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan, Sikandar Raza of Zimbabwe, and Sam Curran of England were also contenders for the honour.
“Yadav struck 68 sixes during the year, easily the highest in a single year in the format’s history. “Throughout the year, the Indian was the primary batter for his team, hammering two hundreds and nine half-centuries,” the ICC claimed in a news release.
“Yadav was at his spectacular best during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 in Australia, collecting three fifties in six innings and averaging over 60. Notably, his strike-rate was once again quite high at 189.68.
“Having having hit a tonne earlier in the year, Suryakumar maintained his stellar year after the multi-nation event, making his second hundred in T20Is in the year in the bilateral series in New Zealand. Yadav also rose to the top of the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings, with a career-high 890 rating points.”
Tahlia McGrath of Australia was named the ICC Women’s T20I Cricketer of the Year after collecting 435 runs in 16 matches at an average of 62.14. She also took 13 wickets.
McGrath defeated India’s Smriti Mandhana, Pakistan’s all-rounder Nida Dar, and New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine.
The winners of the ICC Awards are determined by the results of the ICC Voting Academy, which includes a broader selection of worldwide cricket journalists and broadcasters, as well as cricket fans who vote through the ICC’s digital media.
The awards were valid from January 1 to December 31, 2022.
