Sania Mirza played her final professional tennis match in Dubai on Tuesday, losing her first-round women’s doubles match with America’s Madison Keys, 4-6, 0-6 against Russian pair Veronika Kudermetova and Liudmila Samsonova.

Sania Mirza’s 20-year tennis career ended with the defeat in the last match, along with American partner, with 4-6, 0-6 in women’s doubles.

36-year-old Indian tennis star Sania Mirza started professional tennis in 2003, her retirement brings an end to a historic career in which he represented India at the highest level of the sport on her own, Sania won six Grand Slam doubles titles and held the doubles World No. 1 position for 91 weeks.

She became the first Indian woman to reach the second week of a singles Major and achieved a career-high singles ranking of World No. 27.

Sania Mirza has won three mixed doubles Grand Slams, two with compatriot Mahesh Bhupathi she played her last Grand Slam Australian Open in Melbourne last month,  She has lost in the final against  Rohan Bopanna.
