Steve Borthwick, the head coach of New England, claims that he deviated from his predecessor Eddie Jones’ selection methodology by basing his team’s selection for the match against Scotland on club performance.

Jones frequently preferred previous England performances, but Borthwick has chosen players who are excelling in the Premier League.

One such choice, center Joe Marchant, replaces longtime squad favorite Manu Tuilagi.

“They’re players who are doing well,” Borthwick explained.

“The most essential thing is that.”

Ollie Hassell-Collins, a wing who has regularly performed for London Irish, cand will make his debut for England in their Six Nations opener.

Marchant “performed exceptionally well” for Harlequins, according to Borthwick, who also praised Ollie Lawrence, the replacement centre, for his “superb” form.

When selecting the England team, Borthwick continued, “There should be many of tough calls.” This was in reference to the selection of Tuilagi.

Ben Youngs, a more seasoned scrum-half, is benched in favor of Jack van Poortvliet in the backline, while Max Malins begins on the wing.
