After the Swede scored twice, including a penalty kick in the final minute, to help Newcastle defeat Nottingham Forest 2-1 on Friday, Alexander Isak stated that the team is confident that they will secure a spot in the Champions League for the upcoming season.

The Magpies move within one point of fourth-place Tottenham and have a game in hand over Spurs with the victory.

After Newcastle secured back-to-back victories to conclude their international break, Isak stated, “We believe and we know that we have it in our own hands and have a good chance,”

“It is important we have gone into this break with a good feeling with two wins from two games.”

The defeat, Forest’s first at home in the league since September, leaves them two points above relegation.

Cooper said, “It´s always the worst way to lose, in the last couple of minutes, having fought in the game,”

“We made some poor football decisions around the build-up to the goals and that´s something we can only blame ourselves for.”

Last weekend, Newcastle beat Wolves to win the Premier League, snapping a nearly two-month losing streak. At the City Ground, they came out on top.

However, Renan Lodi’s conversion of Isak’s cross onto his own crossbar was the closest the visitors came to extending their early dominance into a lead.

Instead, a howl from Sven Botman gave Forest the lead, completely against the flow of play.

The Dutch center back has been a big part of Newcastle’s success this season, but Emmanuel Dennis intercepted his attempt to pass back to goalkeeper Nick Pope and scored with a stunning chipped finish for his second Forest goal.

The crossbar acted the hero again when Sean Longstaff’s diverted strike from the edge of the crate returned off the woodwork.

When club record signing Isak acrobatically flicked Joe Willock’s cross off the post in first-half stoppage time, Newcastle finally received their reward.

The Magpies occupied the Forest goal and continued the pattern of play after the break.

Keylor Navas, a goalkeeper who previously played for Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid, had to be at his best to stop powerful shots from Elliot Anderson and Bruno Guimaraes.

When Anderson headed in Isak’s cross at the back post, he thought he had scored his first senior goal.

Despite the fact that the ball came to the midfielder from a Forest player, the goal was controversially disallowed after a VAR check for offside against Longstaff in the buildup.

Moussa Niakhate erroneously raised his hand to block Isak’s tame header just as Forest appeared poised to hold out for a crucial point in their fight to avoid the drop.

The Swedish player’s first season in England has been marred by injuries, but he showed his class by keeping his head to score past Navas and elicit wild celebrations from the away fans.

Howe stated, “I thought we deserved it.” The victory was significant.

“The group’s character is very pleasing, and coming back is always a great way to win.”
