Arshad Nadeem and Nooh Dastagir Butt, two gold medalists from the Commonwealth Games 2022, were presented with the Pride of Performance award on Thursday [today], Pakistan Day.

Olympic athlete Arshad earned the gold medal in the CWG’s javelin throw competition, while Nooh took first place in the weightlifting competition. A weightlifter from Gujranwala won the first gold medal at the CWG. He set a record for the event’s 109+ kg division by lifting 405 kg.

In his sixth attempt, Arshad set a new CWG and national record for the javelin throw by launching it 90.18 meters.

Arshad succeeded in throwing at 86.81 on his first try in the final, which was a career-best throw and a new national record for Pakistan up to his fifth attempt in the competition.

Arshad also defeated Neeraj Chopra of India’s throws at the World Athletics Championship (88.13m) and the Tokyo Olympics (87.58m, Gold). (Silver). The latter brought Pakistan its first gold medal in athletics at the Commonwealth Games since 1962.

In the past, Arshad made a big impression at the Tokyo Olympics 2020 and the World Athletics Championship 2022, when he placed fifth in both competitions.

Overall, Pakistan won eight medals, making it one of their best CWG performances to yet. Arshad (javelin throw) and Nooh Dastagir Butt (weightlifting) of Pakistan took home gold medals, while Inam Butt, Zaman Anwar, and Mohammad Sharif Tahir (wrestling) brought home silver and bronze, respectively.

Pakistan won the most medals at CWG in 1970 with ten. Pakistan won eight medals in 2002, but just one of them was a gold.
