Imad Wasim Joins T10 League Lineup, Confirms Junaid Khan
Pakistan’s versatile all-rounder, Imad Wasim, has decided to skip the National T20 Cup to participate in the upcoming Abu Dhabi T10 League, as confirmed by Islamabad’s head coach, Junaid Khan, in an exclusive interview.
Imad Wasim, who was initially named in Islamabad’s squad for the National T20 Cup, expressed his belief in a more promising future in league cricket, prompting his decision to join the T10 League. “Imad feels he has a better future in league cricket hence he decided to play in T10 League, and PCB issued him NOC,” stated Junaid Khan.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) initially raised concerns about granting a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to Imad, as they were keen on having all players participate in the National T20 Cup. However, the PCB eventually issued the NOC, allowing Imad to join the Deccan Gladiators in the T10 League.
Despite his inclusion in Islamabad’s squad, Imad did not feature in the playing XI for the opening game against Karachi Whites. The decision to skip the national tournament has sparked discussions about the balance between domestic and league cricket.
The Gladiators’ spokesperson expressed uncertainty about Imad’s NOC status, saying, “He hasn’t got the NOC so far. Let’s see what PCB decides.” The franchise is hopeful that the PCB will greenlight Imad’s availability for the T10 League, where the Gladiators are scheduled to face New York Strikers in the opening match on November 28.
Imad Wasim’s choice follows the withdrawal of experienced all-rounder Shoaib Malik and rookie wicketkeeper Mohammad Haris from the T10 League. Both players had contracts with the New York Strikers but opted to prioritize national commitments by participating in the National T20 Cup.
The developments surrounding Imad Wasim highlight the ongoing debate within Pakistani cricket about the players’ choices between domestic and league tournaments, shedding light on the evolving dynamics in the cricketing landscape.
