However, Uganda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Nigeria are still in the running for the last qualifying berth. While Zimbabwe and Nigeria depend on the results of other games, Uganda and Kenya are in charge of their destiny.
Namibia is participating in its third Men’s T20 World Cup in a row. They finished second in the group stage and advanced to the Super 12 stage in 2021, however, they were not selected for the playoffs the previous year.
Thinking back on Namibia’s participation in the qualifier competition:
Namibia’s Victory over Zimbabwe by 7 wickets
Namibia easily trounced Zimbabwe, one of the top contenders, in the opening game. With remarkable skill, the bowlers restricted Zimbabwe to a meager 132/2 in 20 overs. With an impressive 89 from 45 balls, Nikolaas Davin set the stage for The Eagles to win by seven wickets.
Namibia’s Win against Uganda by 6 wickets
Namibia kept up their good run-chases, holding Uganda to a low total before reaching the objective. Uganda were bowled out for 114 thanks in part to David Wiese’s impressive 4/17 bowling stats. With three overs remaining in the innings, Jan Frylinck and Captain Gerhard Erasmus played a disciplined innings and laid a good basis for the victory.
Namibia’s Triumph over Rwanda by 68 runs (DLS method)
For the first time, Namibia batted first and amassed a dominant 207/3, led by Davin’s outstanding 80 off 59 balls. Even though Rwanda had a poor start, rain delays let Namibia gain two more points using the DLS technique.
Namibia’s Victory against Kenya by 6 wickets
Namibia bowled first and restricted Kenya to 104/6. Despite a rocky start, they rallied behind a match-winning partnership between Frylinck (57*) and JJ Smit (14*), which saw them win.
Namibia’s Win over Tanzania by 58 runs
Namibia persevered despite facing a challenge to their batting depth. A target of 158 was set thanks to Smit’s quick 24-ball 40 and significant contributions from Nicol Loftie-Eaton and Zane Green. Tanzania had a difficult time chasing, only managing to reach 99/6 as Namibia’s bowlers were in complete control.
Namibia was able to guarantee their spot in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 with this victory.
