The International Tennis Federation (ITF) Davis Cup Committee (DCC) has formally announced its decision to uphold Pakistan’s right to host the Davis Cup tie against India in February 2024, as per the ITF draws.

President of the Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) Senator Salim Saifullah Khan, along with the PTF management, expressed their satisfaction with the ruling, welcoming the opportunity to host this highly anticipated event.

The development follows a special meeting convened by the DCC on November 3, prompted by objections raised by the All India Tennis Association (AITA) regarding the security concerns in Pakistan. Notably, the AITA had previously raised similar concerns during the 2019 tie, leading to the match being played in Kazakhstan as decided by the DCC at that time.

In the recent dispute, President PTF, the Davis Cup team players, and management refused to accede to what they deemed as an “unreasonable demand” by the AITA, prompting the DCC to step in. In adherence to ITF rules and regulations governing Davis Cup ties, both nations were asked to submit their respective views. The PTF presented a detailed case, as did the AITA. After careful examination, consultation with ITF Security Consultants, and extensive deliberations, the 15-member DCC passed a majority vote in favor of maintaining the original decision to hold the tie in Islamabad.

The news has been warmly received by the PTF and tennis enthusiasts across Pakistan. The tie, scheduled for February 3rd and 4th, 2024, is now anticipated with even greater excitement. Acting swiftly, the PTF, under the direction of President Salim Saifullah Khan, has initiated the necessary preparations and documentation to successfully host this major sporting event.

“The decision, formally conveyed by the ITF, is very good news for the PTF and all tennis lovers in Pakistan as it is a keenly awaited contest,” stated a PTF official. The upcoming Davis Cup tie promises to be a significant sporting spectacle, and the PTF is committed to ensuring a successful and secure event for players and spectators alike.
