In a dazzling display of cricket prowess, Indian cricket star Virat Kohli has etched his name in history by becoming the only player to be crowned the Player of the Tournament in three ICC events.

Despite India’s loss to Australia in the ICC World Cup 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Kohli’s exceptional performance left the cricketing world in awe.

The 35-year-old batting maestro showcased his class, amassing a record-breaking 765 runs in the tournament, marking the highest individual run tally in a single World Cup edition. Kohli’s consistency was evident throughout the competition, with a staggering average of 95.62 and an impressive strike rate of 90.31. His highest score of 117 against New Zealand in the semi-final further solidified his dominance on the grand stage.

This remarkable achievement adds to Kohli’s earlier Player of the Tournament awards in the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups. Despite his individual brilliance in these tournaments, India fell short of clinching the title on both occasions, losing to Sri Lanka in 2014 and West Indies in 2016.

In addition to his Player of the Tournament accolade, Kohli shattered multiple records in the ICC World Cup 2023. He secured his 50th ODI century, surpassing the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, one of his cricketing idols. Kohli also climbed to the second-highest run-scorer position in ODI World Cup history, surpassing Australian great Ricky Ponting.

During the final against Australia, Kohli contributed 54 runs to his team’s total, bringing his ODI World Cup run tally to an impressive 1795 runs in 37 matches, boasting a remarkable average of 59.83. His stellar performance included five centuries and 12 fifties, with the highest score of 117 against New Zealand in the 2023 mega event.

While Kohli’s individual brilliance continues to rewrite the record books, the elusive ODI World Cup title remains a gap in his illustrious career. Despite falling short in the 2023 final, Kohli’s legacy as one of cricket’s modern-day greats is firmly cemented.
