In Canberra, on the first day of the four-day match against the Australian Prime Minister’s XI, Shan Masood, Pakistan’s recently appointed Test captain, shone.

At stumps on Wednesday, the elegant left-hander led his team to 324-6 thanks to an undefeated century.

Masood used 13 fours and a six to score 156 runs in 235 balls.

Imam-ul-Haq, Pakistan’s opening batsman, was dismissed early after reaching nine runs off the bowling of Jordan Buckingham by wicketkeeper Jimmy Peirson. Pakistan had elected to bat first.

But Masood and Abdullah Shafique put up 58 runs for the second wicket before the latter was removed by Mark Steketee with 38 runs already scored.

Following Shafique’s demise, star batsman Babar Azam amassed 40 runs in 88 balls with five fours. Along with Masood, he scored 92 runs for the third wicket.
