Nick Kyrgios pulls out of Australian Open amid injury

Due to persistent injuries that kept him out of action for a large portion of the 2023 season, Nick Kyrgios has been ruled out of the Australian Open for the second year in a row, the Australian revealed on Saturday.

Because of the injury, Kyrgios also had surgery on his left knee.

In June, the Australian lost his comeback match at the Stuttgart Open first round against Wu Yibing of China after a five-month break.

The 28-year-old also withdrew from Wimbledon and the US Open owing to a wrist ligament issue, and he was unable to play in the French Open because of a foot injury sustained during the car theft.

“This is a very disappointing time for me, but I won’t be able to compete at the 2024 Australian Open,” Kyrgios said on the online platform OnlyFans, which he joined on Friday.

“Obviously, heartbreaking. I’ve had so many amazing memories there, and I just want to really get back to playing at the top of my game and doing it right, and I need a little more time.

“I was so close to winning a Grand Slam. I want to make sure that my body is going to have the time it needs to come back, so please bear with me.”

After an outstanding 2022 season in which he won the Washington title, advanced to the Wimbledon final, and reached the quarterfinals at Flushing Meadows, Kyrgios‘ injury problems began.

In a setback to the organisers, he was not included in the Australian Open main draw, which was announced on Thursday. However, he is anticipated to participate in the Grand Slam for television commentary.
