Real Madrid Set to Extend Star Midfielder’s Contract
In a bid to secure the continued services of one of their key players, Real Madrid is reportedly gearing up to extend the contract of German midfielder Toni Kroos. The decision comes as Kroos, 33, approaches the end of his current contract, which is set to expire in June 2024.
Real Madrid is keen on offering Kroos a one-year contract extension, a move that underscores the club’s desire to retain the seasoned midfielder. Kroos, who has consistently delivered standout performances, is currently the top-assister in La Liga with six assists to his name and shows no signs of decline.
The potential contract extension gains added significance as another stalwart in Real Madrid’s midfield, Luka Modric, is speculated to be on the verge of leaving the club after an illustrious 11-year stint.
Despite Kroos’ repeated indications that he doesn’t plan to play football for an extended period, Real Madrid is eager to keep him on board, recognizing his on-field contributions, wealth of experience, and winning mentality.
One obstacle in the negotiation process is reportedly Kroos’ indecision about his future. The player has not made a definitive decision, and Real Madrid is awaiting clarity on whether he intends to continue his career with the club.
Real Madrid, currently leading the league with 45 points from 18 games, faces competition from Girona, who share the same points but are in the second position due to a previous loss to Los Blancos at home.
The potential contract extension aligns with the uncertainty surrounding the managerial position, as Carlo Ancelotti’s contract is also set to expire next summer. Ancelotti, who has managed the team adeptly despite challenges such as the absence of a prominent striker and injuries throughout the season, is likely to advocate for Kroos’ renewal if he continues as the head coach.
Toni Kroos, since his debut in 2014, has been a pivotal player for Real Madrid, starting in all the trophy-winning campaigns. His contributions extend beyond the club, with achievements including winning the FIFA World Cup with the German national team in 2014 and earning recognition in the IFFHS and UEFA’s team of the decade for 2011-2020.
