John Terry, a former player for Chelsea, has determined which squad he believes has the best chance to defeat Manchester City in the Champions League this year.

In June, City won their first Champions League match when they defeated Inter Milan 1-0 in the Istanbul final, captained by Pep Guardiola.

They easily won their group, ahead of RB Leipzig, Young Boys, and Red Star Belgrade, and became the favorites to win a second straight championship this season.

Even though City has only won once in their past six Premier League games, they are expected to advance as they take on Copenhagen in the competition’s round of 16.

Terry, one of the ambassadors for this year’s Champions League final at Wembley, conducted the draw for the round of 16 on Monday at UEFA’s main headquarters.

Terry identified the one team he thinks will win the Champions League in London the following season.

“I think you have to look at Real Madrid. They’ve been fantastic for the last seven or eight years in the competition, and they’re always there [in the latter stages],” he said.

“I think Jude Bellingham’s been incredible as an individual. They have a fantastic manager, I worked alongside Carlo for many years at Chelsea and he’s a great man manager. The players love him, and he’s great tactically. I think they’ll go a long way.”

From 2009 to 2011, Ancelotti managed Terry’s time at Chelsea, and the two helped the Italian win a Premier League title in his first full season at Stamford Bridge.

The 64-year-old has won two Champions League trophies with Real Madrid since leaving Chelsea, to go along with his two earlier victories with AC Milan in 2003 and 2007. In an attempt to become the most successful manager in European Cup history, he hopes to win a fifth championship this year.

It is important to remember that the round of 16 matches for the UEFA Champions League 2023–2024 has been confirmed, and it will start in February 2024.

Teams that placed first in their respective groups were attracted to the other groups’ runners-up. Teams from the same nation cannot, however, play against one another.
