FIFA Rankings announced after latest AFC Asian Cup, AFCON matches
The most recent games in the AFCON and AFC Asian Cup significantly affected the FIFA Live Rankings.
South Korea overcame Bahrain 3-1 to start their Asian Cup campaign, while Iraq, the defending champions, triumphed over Indonesia by the same score on Monday.
Jordan easily defeated Malaysia 4-0 in the day’s final match, with braces from Mousa Al-Tamari and Mahmoud Al-Mardi.
Senegal defeated Gambia 3-0 on Monday to start their Africa Cup of Nations title defence, while Algeria and Cameroon drew their opening games. Lamine Camara scored twice for Senegal.
Sadio Mane’s Senegal, who are attempting to retain the championship they won in Cameroon two years prior, proved to be too formidable for their neighbors the Gambians, who used ten men for the entirety of the second half.
Senegal’s next Group C matchup against five-time winners Cameroon is probably going to be more difficult.
In the second game of the day in Yamoussoukro, the 2017 winners Indomitable Lions had to fight back from behind to draw 1-1 with 10-man Guinea. Frank Magri equalized for Cameroon early in the second half.
After Cameroon, Nigeria, Egypt, and Ghana, Algeria—the 2019 champions—became the most recent significant nation to lose their opening match as they were defeated to a 1-1 draw by Angola in Bouake.
In the second city of Ivory Coast, Baghdad Bounedjah took Algeria the lead after eighteen minutes. Shortly after, the striker’s spectacular second goal was disallowed due to a close offside call.
Midway through the second half of the Group D encounter, a Mabululu penalty gave Angola the equalizer. However, since 2012, Angola has lost all nine of their games at the Cup of Nations.
