Shamar Joseph claimed seven scalps as the West Indies triumphed in a Test in Australia for the first time in 27 years.

The visitors kept their cool in a nail-biting finish to win by eight runs and secure a levelled two-match series.

Joseph, the fast bowler who limped off in agony 24 hours earlier after being hurt while batting, ended up 7-68 in Brisbane.

Steve Smith (91) remained unbeaten for Australia, who suffered their first defeat in a day-night Test match.

Joseph, who left his job as a security guard just a year and a half ago, unleashed his speed at the Gabba to demolish the Australian batting line-up.

He required medical attention before play—at one point he thought of not even going to the ground for day four—but bounced back to bowl nearly 12 decisive overs.

Australia were sailing at 113-2 when Joseph dismissed Cameron Green (42) and Travis Head in back-to-back deliveries.

Despite Smith’s resistance, Joseph made his way through the Australian batting order before sealing his team’s first Test win against Australia anywhere in the world since 2003 when he knocked over Josh Hazlewood.

The two sides will play three one-day internationals and three T20s next.
