The England Cricket Board (ECB) released a humorous video on Monday featuring England’s white-ball Captain Jos Buttler. In the video, titled ‘official statement,’ Buttler humorously announces that he is changing his first name to Josh due to ongoing frustrations with people mispronouncing his name.

The video opens with Buttler sharing anecdotes of how his name has been consistently misspelt and mispronounced, even by his own mother.

“Hi there. I’m England white ball captain Jos Buttler. But for my entire life, I’ve been called the wrong name,” Buttler stated.

“From people on the street to my mum and in my birthday card. Dear Josh, you’re getting old. Happy birthday. Lots of Love, Mum,” he continued.

Buttler also disclosed that his name was incorrectly spelt on his MBE medal.

“Even my MBE was wrong. So after 13 years representing my country and two World Cup wins, it’s time to finally fix the problem. To solve the problem once and for all, I am officially Josh Buttler,” he declared.

The video concludes with the producer mistakenly calling Buttler as Jos instead of Josh, leading to Buttler discarding his pen in apparent annoyance, hinting at an April Fool’s joke.

“Okay guys, that’s a cut. Thanks, Jos!” the producer commented.

Currently, Buttler is participating in the Indian Premier League, playing for the Rajasthan Royals.

At 33 years old, Buttler has represented England in 57 Tests, 181 ODIs, and 114 T20Is. He is set to captain the defending champions in the forthcoming T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place in the USA and the Caribbean.

Buttler’s leadership, both with his batting and on the field, was instrumental in England’s T20 World Cup victory in Australia in late 2022. England is hopeful that a successful season with the Royals will provide Buttler with the perfect preparation for their title defence in the Caribbean.
