Pakistan’s left-arm fast bowler, Mohammad Amir, has commended team captain Babar Azam and the team management for fostering a positive atmosphere in the dressing room as the 2024 T20 World Cup draws near.

Amir, aged 31, has returned to international cricket after a nearly four-year break, reversing his retirement decision following a standout performance in the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2024.

Pakistan comfortably won the second T20I against New Zealand, restricting the visitors to a mere 90 runs in the first innings and successfully chasing the target with 47 balls remaining. Mohammad Rizwan was the top scorer for the victorious side.

In a post-match press conference, Amir lauded the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) management and Babar, attributing the creation of a positive team environment to their efforts, which he believes will be crucial with the World Cup on the horizon.

“In the previous video that I recorded with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), I gave them credit to their management. The current management, which includes Azhar [Ali] bhai, [Mohammad] Yousuf bhai, Wahab [Riaz] bhai, and Babar [Azam] is the captain they are all trying to create a positive environment and I think that at this time, the team’s atmosphere is very good,” Amir stated after the match.

“The seniors and juniors are getting along well. Our goal is to win the World Cup and that is our only focus and we believe that if we keep the team’s environment great, we will be able to deliver for the team greatly.”

It’s worth noting that Amir, who was playing his first match for Pakistan since 2019, made an immediate impact by dismissing Tim Robinson for just four runs in his first over.

Amir continued to disrupt the visitor’s batting lineup in his second over, claiming the wicket of Dean Foxcroft, with skipper Babar Azam making a straightforward catch.

He concluded his spell with impressive figures of 2/13 in three overs, playing a key role in the Pakistani bowling lineup.
