The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly selected former South African batsman Gary Kirsten and former Australian fast bowler Jason Gillespie as the head coaches for the national men’s team’s white-ball and red-ball formats, respectively.
The announcement will be made once all formalities are completed, as the PCB has posted the positions on its website and is accepting applications until April 15, according to sources.
Kirsten, who is currently with the Gujarat Titans’ coaching staff for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024, previously served as the head coach of the Indian team that won the ICC Cricket World Cup in 2011.
Gillespie, on the other hand, recently stepped down from his position as the head coach of South Australia and the Adelaide Strikers men’s team. He had earlier guided Yorkshire to back-to-back division one titles in 2014 and 2015.
The PCB also advertised the position of assistant coach for the Pakistan cricket team on Saturday. This role will support both the red-ball and white-ball head coaches. Applicants must have at least a Level 2 coaching accreditation and three years of experience with an international team, franchise, or domestic side.
According to the PCB’s advertisement, interested candidates should apply by 5pm on April 20 at the latest.
It’s worth noting that Pakistan’s previous coaching staff, including Mickey Arthur, Grant Bradburn, and Andrew Puttick, who were reassigned to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Lahore, resigned from their respective roles in January this year following a portfolio change in November 2023.
In April 2023, Arthur was appointed as the Director of the Pakistan men’s cricket team, while Bradburn was brought in as the head coach. Puttick, a former South African cricketer, has been serving as the batting coach since April 2023.
The PCB stated that the decision was made amicably by all parties involved.
